There is an old saying that oaks spend 200 years growing, 200 years standing still, and 200 years dying. Canopy is inspired by the veteran oaks of Epping Forest, firmly into their last 200. Stripped of bark and all but the largest branches, these bleached giants poke through the canopy year-round, providing a counterpoint to the ever-changing foliage of the forest.
Canopy’s branching structure is designed to echo these standing dead oaks of the forest. To further the connection, Canopy is made from European oak, and bleached to the same weathered shade as its bigger brethren. The porthole in Canopy's surface allows an ever-changing view of the branches, as well as allowing light in to play through them, before falling to the ground as dappled shade.
